New Research Suggests that Apple iPhones are Literally Ripping You Off!

According to a research team by , the Apple iPhone 6 costs them only $200, which is about $5 more than last year’s iPhone 5S model. The 5S initially sold for $650 without a two-year contract, which is what the 6 is going for now.

IHS Inc. is a company based in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. IHS serves international clients in seven major industries: aerospace and defense, automotive, chemical, energy, finance, maritime, and technology.

The research showed that it takes Apple $200 to make a 16GB iPhone 6 while it takes them $215.60 to make an iPhone 6 Plus according to a teardown of the device conducted by the team, apparently, it takes Apple only $16 more to manufacture the iPhone 6, but they charge a $100 more for it.

The full, no-contract price for the 16-gigabyte iPhone 6 is $650. IHS estimates it costs Apple $200.10 for materials and manufacturing. The iPhone 6 Plus retails for $750 without a contract, but IHS says it costs Apple $215.60.

The most expensive part of the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus is the display and touchscreen, costing $45 to $53, compared with $41 for the iPhone 5S last year. The battery costs about $4 to $5, 16GB of memory costs $15 and the camera costs $11 to $13. Much of the rest of the cost is taken up by computer chips.
